Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Canada's Top 40 Under 40 Awards

Quantum Environmental Group
Quantum Environmental Group is an environmental remediation and hazardous waste materials contracting company. Founded in 1992, the company quickly grew from a three-person operation specializing in asbestos removal to a full-service environmental remediation company with more than 300 employees and several offices across Canada.

Whalebone Productions worked with Quantum on a strategy to transform its image from a small, entrepreneurial start-up offering a single service to that of a well-established, diversified company capable of handling larger, more technically challenging and complex projects. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and the Top 40 Under 40 awards provided the company's founders with an opportunity to tell their story to a wider audience, build credibility within their industry, and strengthen team spirit.

Whalebone worked with the company to identify its entrepreneurial and business achievements and put together an award-winning application package. As a result, Jeff Westeinde and Doug Wynn, co-founders of Quantum Environmental Group, received the Ernst & Young 2001 Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Business to Business category for their achievements in building a company that disposes of hazardous waste materials in a safe and environmentally-effective manner. In 2002, Jeff Westeinde was selected as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 which recognizes the achievements of Canadians under the age of 40.

Yves Veggie Cuisine
Founded in 1985 by Yves Potvin, Yves Veggie Cuisine is now the leading brand of refrigerated meat alternatives in North America. Its line of soy based veggie wieners, burgers, deli slices and veggie ground round is sold fresh in grocery stores and supermarket chains across Canada and the United States.

Whalebone Productions' strategy was to re-position the company from the narrow, niche market of natural foods to the broader mainstream market by focusing attention on the company's business achievements. The Top 40 Under 40 and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards were identified as an opportunity to reinforce Yves Veggie Cuisine's authority as an industry leader, and to highlight the entrepreneurial vision and strengths of its founder.

Working closely with company founder Yves Potvin, Whalebone put together an award-winning application package that successfully identified and conveyed the company's achievements. As a result, Yves Potvin, president and founder of Yves Veggie Cuisine, was selected as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 in 1995. Yves was later named Ernst & Young's 1997 Entrepreneur of the Year for Agriculture and Food in recognition of his ingenuity, hard work, and innovation in creating a successful business in the growing new category of meat alternatives.
