Canada Awards for Excellence

The Canadian equivalent of the Malcolm Baldrige Award in the United States, the Canada Awards for Excellence have been providing national recognition for business excellence and a commitment to quality since 1984.

Yves Veggie Cuisine
Yves Veggie Cuisine is the leading brand of refrigerated meat alternatives in North America. Its line of veggie wieners, burgers, deli slices and ground round is available in major grocery stores and supermarkets across Canada and the United States.

Whalebone Productions Ltd. began working with Yves Veggie Cuisine in 1992 on a strategy to strengthen its brand name recognition in the mainstream market. Whalebone’s strategy was to build credibility and win the confidence of industry leaders by focusing attention on the company’s business achievements and entrepreneurial strengths.

Working closely with company founder Yves Potvin, Whalebone packaged Yves Veggie Cuisine’s story as a pioneer in the creation of a new category of food so that it succeeded in winning not one but two 1992 Canada Awards for Excellence in Entrepreneurship (for company founder Yves Potvin), and for Small Business.

A.G. Professional Hair Care
A.G. manufactures and distributes its own line of shampoo, conditioners, and styling gels for use by professional hair stylists exclusively. In just five years, the company grew to become one of Western Canada’s top three salon brands and the only Canadian brand to go head to head against multinational giants such as Joico and Sebastian.

When A.G. wanted to make its mark as an industry leader, it turned to Whalebone Productions Ltd. Whalebone worked with A.G.’s founders, the husband and wife team of John and Lotte Davis to identify the company’s strengths and achievements, and to develop an application package that succeeded in winning A.G. the 1994 Canada Awards for excellence in the Small Business category.
