Laurie Jones
Co-founder | Principal
An award-winning author, Laurie has more than 25 years experience designing and managing strategic communications, public relations and marketing programs for a wide range of clients, from small businesses and not-for-profits to large companies and international brands.
Laurie specializes in developing targeted communications strategies and packaging information that connects with its intended audiences. She has a particular knack for being able to accurately identify the core principles of her clients’ businesses, zero in on their communication needs, and craft the messages and tools that will help them achieve their objectives.
Since co-founding Whalebone Productions, Laurie has led public relations campaigns and helped build brand awareness for a variety of companies and organizations, including Patak’s, La Costeña, Sunrise Soyfoods, and Yves Veggie Cuisine. She has also developed and written communications material for not-for-profit organizations to help raise their profile and reach key audiences.
In addition to her marketing and communications work, Laurie is an accomplished writer and author of Nootka Sound Explored: Links to the Past, which received a provincial award for best community history. The book documents the modern day history of the Nootka Sound region on Vancouver Island, as told through interviews with past and current residents.
Before Whalebone Productions, Laurie served as the executive director of the Kwagiulth Museum, a First Nations museum and cultural centre on Quadra Island; community education coordinator and campus director for Northwest Community College in Prince Rupert; reporter for The Prince Rupert Daily News, and reporter/current affairs host for CBC Radio.
Laurie has an M.A. in Communications from Simon Fraser University and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia.
